He worked with young players, was valuable consultant to management, and was an inspiration to Tiger team at the beginning of each new season, with his presence at Spring Training.Here is a handwritten scouting report, on a single page of lined loose-leaf, which Mr. Tiger compiled on the 1998 Tampa Bay Devil Rays. It was discovered tucked away inside a 1998 Detroit Tigers Information Guide. Two of the players mentioned are Jose Canseco and Fred McGriff.For Canseco, he writes: "Pulls most of the time. Pitch hard in and up. Change up early in count." With McGriff he suggests: "Straight away most of the time. Likes ball middle of plate. Pitch hard in with two strikes."
